The greatest benefit of opting for a guided tour of London is the history and knowledge you receive. Professional tour companies do more than just drive you around the city. They pair you with an experienced and knowledgeable tour guide. That guide is familiar with the history of London, England, as well as each attraction you visit. Many are content on simply just viewing these famous landmarks, such as the Tower Bridge, but you may want more. Instead of just reading unique facts and the history of area landmarks, hear it from a real person.
Another benefit to opting for a guided tour of London, England is the ease of planning. In addition to making your travel arrangements, researching activities and attractions is also a part of planning a great vacation. Unfortunately, you may not have the time to do so. There are hundreds of noteworthy landmarks in London. Since you do not have time to visit them all, avoid the dreaded task of researching and comparing your options. Instead, let a professional tour company choose the stops for you. Not only does this simplify the planning of your trip, but it also ensures you get to see the most popular attractions in London.
Another benefit to opting for a guided tour of London is your options. Tours come in a number of different formats. They are offered at many individual attractions, where a volunteer or employee you guide you along the way. Private third-party companies also offer guided tours of London. These companies have different themes, as well as methods of travel. For example, you can travel all around London on a double-decker tour bus or you opt for a smaller group trip in a van to a visit to a well-known attraction, such as the Stonehenge.
While there are a number of pros to opting for a guided tour of London, these tours do have their downsides as well. One of those downsides is the privacy. As previously stated, double-decker tours of London are popular, but you could be one of fifty onboard. If you are looking for privacy, opt for tour companies that offer private tours. These tours may be costly, but they are well worth the cost, especially for those on romantic getaways and honeymoons.
Another downside to opting for a guided tour of London in the cost. You are paying someone to you around the city. Yes, it is nice having a knowledgeable tour guide to educate you on each attraction, but there are cheaper alternatives. There are many tours of London available, so be sure to compare your options. Look for quality tours, such as tours where you see the most landmarks, but with the best prices. Also look for guided tours where your admission fees are included in the cost of your tour.
As shown above, guided tours of London, England are nice, but they do have their pros and cons. As for whether you should book a guided tour, it all depends on your own personal preferences.
Is there such a thing as a guided tour that visits Europe during Christmas time?

Thanks for the mention, Phil. As you and your readers are considering the pros and cons of best practices, I'd commend to you an interesting piece on the topic by Tom Young at Knoco in which he discusses the interplay of best practices with the goals of standardization and innovation:

Ciao Matt & Katie!
It seems you are settling in nicely and beginning to really explore the area. Having lived there before, I would be remiss to not encourage you to check out the local theatres. While Piccadili hosts many of the big budget attractions in London, it is also very expensive. I remember when I went there simply to see a movie (ten years ago) and it cost $18 for a single ticket!
Luckily, Shakespeare and the theatre's influence can be felt throughout the country. London is thriving with small 'avent garde' theaters all over the city that truly put on some marvelous plays. Also, if you get the chance, take the train/bus out to Stratford upon Avon and visit Sir William Shakespeare's house and catch a play at THE top school for Shakespearean drama. I've been to hundreds of Shakespearean performances, and so far, none compare to what I saw while I was in England.
Anyway, just thought I'd give you some more ideas on how to make the most of your short time abroad!
Across the pond, things are going well. My folks are coming to stay with Antonio and me for Easter (they arrive Thursday). In bigger news, Antonio is officially a legal resident of USA. YAY! While it will be some time before we venture over to Italy to explore his home (I think we're going to wait until next year), we have booked ourselves a romantic late-honeymoon if you will along the Riviera Maya in Mexico. We'll be there in June and cannot wait!
Other than those events, life is pretty much the same old routine. We get up, we go to work, we try to find a few times to enjoy libations with good friends, and we start over the next day.
Take care of yourselves, and do, if you can, check out the theatre in London. You'll never experience anything quite like it. It really is “Bloody Brilliant.”
Cheers, Your cousin, Katie V.
